everyone needs a bit of romance

The Poetry Thursday prompt for this week was to write about a "river". This subject started me thinking about the idea of two lovers strolling hand in hand, alongside the water's edge, perhaps stopping to have a picnic lunch under a large shady oak tree.

I admit... I am very much a hopeless romantic, but doesn't everyone need a little romance in their lives?

longing for a quiet place
where they could just be

wanting it to be perfect
like a fantasy

he laid the blanket down
upon the grassy knoll

while she fussed with sandwiches
in a basket worn and old

sharing stolen glances
and wondering what to say

next to a lazy river's edge
two lovers enjoy the day

Beauty always awaits me inside the Red Door.
I do need some romance...I had forgotten. :)

Being a hopeless romantic too, I found this poem heartwarming.

You made me want to pack a basket up for dinner tonight, and haul the boys off to eat sandwiches by the river. Maybe not the most romantic thing to have my preschooler there, too, but he'd love it just as much as we would.
