Bittersweet

Life changes so rapidly, each minute passing,
never to return.

Moments that you wish would linger are
gone in an instant, replaced by bitter-
sweet feelings, a sort of melancholy that
always comes with an end.

The five little miracles that appeared
at my door, not so long ago... have gone.

My time with them is over, and what is
left is a hole in my heart created by their
absence.

The remnants of their existence still
remain, and I continue to find myself
aimlessly wandering by the front door,
now and then, looking for them.

Hoping perhaps, just one might come
back to say goodbye.

But alas, there are no goodbyes...only
the beautiful memories of this gift I was
given.

Although they have been gone since
Sunday, I can't help but shed a few tears
as I write. And even with tears streaming
down my face, I wear a faint smile thinking
of these little ones taking their first steps
into this great big world... ready to carry on
that never-ending circle of life.

aww, that was really sweet. i know, it is very bittersweet to watch the little guys being born, getting bigger and then fledge. i got to watch some baby robins fledge one day and ran outside with my camera when i realize what was going on. i got the best pictures and treasure that i got to watch it first hand.

But what a blessing to have had them... and if you leave the nest, letting it deteriorate as if it were in a tree or bush, maybe they will be back next spring. Here, with the warm weather sometimes we get double clutches in spring and summer... Perhaps they'll be back... sooner than later...

I know how you feel. Every spring when my pals the Junco's and Warblers leave for their summer homes, they just leave. No thank you note for the sunflower seeds, suet. de-iced water and watchful eye. But I always welcome them back with open arms every winter. Ain't Mom Nature grand!

How wonderful that they chose your door to raise their brood! Such cute babies... what a blessing to help them have a safe start in life.

Shedding a tear with you - each little bird is such a dear friend...

Oh, how sweet. I have had the wonderful opportunity of having a hummingbird nest just outside of my kitchen window. That was wonderful The itty bitty little babies seemed to grow and fly away much too soon. I throughly enjoyed watching them though. Its kind of like children. You wonder where the time went. They're little babies and you turn around and they are getting married or going away to college. Life..... isn't it amazing?

I came across your beautiful blog and art by way of Alisa Burke's blog and am soo glad I did! You are amazing! Nd I know just how you felt in this blog post - we had baby hummingbirds that we watched from Mamma bird making the nest to the two of them taking flight..we even had a contest to name them - George & Gracie - and we have the nest under glass (I waited almost 8 months before I would attempt to take it down..)
We have seen 2 hummingbirds in the yard this year and we (probably foolishly) think it may be Georgie & Gracie - one can only hope!
