Field Notes: The Nature Of New York

Since the first of April, I have been traveling
hither and yon, crossing the country to
teach, as well as investigate opportunities
for licensing my art.

This last week, I returned home from a
trip to Manhattan, where I spent several
days attending the National Stationery
Show. It was exciting to share this
experience with my friend, Dawn Sokol.
We had the chance to check out what this
trade show is all about and make some
valuable contacts.

But no matter how busy one's schedule is,
I don't think you can visit such a glorious
place like New York City without spending
a little time exploring the landscape of this
bustling metropolis.

Even in this most urban setting, my city
adventures had me searching for, and
longing to find glimpses of Nature and
the last remnants of Spring....

Miscellaneous Goodness!

I can hardly believe how quickly the time has
passed. Here we are, now, almost at the end
of May.

I am home from my travels to New York, and
have some wonderful photos to share with you.
While I am sorting and gathering these images,
I invite you to visit my little shop.

I have some LOVELY treasures that are sure to
capture your heart! And will only be available
for one more week.

I am offering two very beautiful lavender sachet
designs that are reminiscent of vintage letters
and envelopes. (The envelope design is shown
above)

Each sachet is filled with the most fragrant buds.
These buds are of the highest quality and come
from Apifera Farm, which is artist owned and
operated by my adorable friend, Katherine Dunn.
Every sachet is hand-stitched and decorate with
various ribbons, vintage lace, and a nature inspired
shipping tag.

MANY THANKS to all those that have made these
Lavender Sachets a HUGE SUCCESS! I have received
several special orders for this unique treasure. Please
feel free to contact me if you need 4 or more sachets,
and I will be happy to quote a reduced shipping price.

I am also extremely pleased to bring back, by popular
demand, both volumes of my little poetry books. Each
petite 4" x 6" book is filled with original poems and
accompanying artwork printed in full color. Every
copy will come exquisitely gift wrapped. Only one
copy of each book remains.

And if you missed last nights FaveCrafts Radio Broadcast...

I had a wonderful time participating in the thoughtful
interview and roundtable discussion. The host, Tiffany
Windsor, had an incredible, diverse group of guests,
and I feel so honored to have been part of the show.

Late Spring

"So what of...
the In's, the Out's,
the Thick's, the Thin's

Life is not measured by moments,
instead we cling to instances of
enlightenment or purpose.

I write nonsense...
but it is just so, that nothing
is the teacher of all things."

Bittersweet

Life changes so rapidly, each minute passing,
never to return.

Moments that you wish would linger are
gone in an instant, replaced by bitter-
sweet feelings, a sort of melancholy that
always comes with an end.

The five little miracles that appeared
at my door, not so long ago... have gone.

My time with them is over, and what is
left is a hole in my heart created by their
absence.

The remnants of their existence still
remain, and I continue to find myself
aimlessly wandering by the front door,
now and then, looking for them.

Hoping perhaps, just one might come
back to say goodbye.

But alas, there are no goodbyes...only
the beautiful memories of this gift I was
given.

Although they have been gone since
Sunday, I can't help but shed a few tears
as I write. And even with tears streaming
down my face, I wear a faint smile thinking
of these little ones taking their first steps
into this great big world... ready to carry on
that never-ending circle of life.
