EVOLVE

About a month ago, I was contacted by an artist who wanted to purchase a custom garland from my etsy store.

She was excited to have one to hang in her studio, as she had seen another artist do.

When she wrote to inquire on price and shipping, she also told me that she was trying to decide on the perfect word for her treasure. Almost a week or two weeks later, she wrote to tell me that she had been pondering this idea of a word and had come up with "EVOLVE".

Although, she felt that it was more spiritual than artsy, this was where she knew she was in life currently.

I INSTANTLY fell in LOVE with her idea... of "EVOLVE", and immediately pulled out my webster's dictionary to look up the definition.

I worked over the follow days to turn her request into a beautiful reality.

I was very pleased with how the finished garland turned out, and honestly, had a hard time parting with it. However, I knew this was her gift to herself.

But, oh, how I wished I had been there when the package arrived, just to see her face when she carefully unfurled the garland to gaze upon "EVOLVE" for the first time.

I wished with all my might that she too was as inspired and moved by the finished piece and her choice, as I was with making it for her.

I have not stopped thinking about that word. And, I don't know if I will ever be asked to make another "EVOLVE" garland again, but her choice guided me to not only create a lovely and inspiring visual reminder, but to write the poetic prose I am offering today as my contribution to Poetry Thursday.

It has caused me to stop and think,... examine my life,...perhaps also giving me the chance to "EVOLVE".

drifting in and out of prevailing moments,
these velvety hues that color my days
soft and longing..

this is a changing season for my life
timid and wondering, yet....
trusting I will find my way

believing in the discovery of a path for these feet to wander,
leading to a door where the key, safe within
the abiding of this heart, will unlock the world

Your garlands are beautiul, and I really like that word - Evolve. It reminds of the little plaque I have in my study, with a quote from Michelangelo - "I am still learning". - He said that in his 90th year! If we keep learning, we keep evolving. Lovely poem.

I can totally relate to the "evolve" concept. At this time, less than two years ago, I would have been sitting here entering timesheets instead of scanning my artwork.
You have captured the meaning of the word beautifully in both your garland and with your words.
I'm sure she is thrilled with her purchase. :)

Evolve... a word I have been thinking about as well. We all evolve as we go through life... what is interesting is how our decisions.. our choices...small as they might be... are what determine where we evolve to...
Your poem is beautiful. Your writing reaches into my heart... what a gift you have!
The garland is beyond beautiful.

A BEAUTIFUL Garland. Such a special word, isn't it? I just used it today in a conversation about how different we are as adults compared to young 20-somethings... And how wonderful it is to evolve, and look back on the journey we took to get where we are.

I hope you're having a great week!

we get to that special path one step at a time and it's like we're on it already, but just don't know it yet.
