This is my favorite photo...weary little robin, sleep, may your dreams be sweet.
I was completely crushed by the discovery and seriously debated whether to even share these images, as my tender heart melts into a puddle of tears each time I see these pictures. This year has definitely been a lesson in the harsh realities of nature. However, I continue to hold hope for the future and all its possibilities.
* And a question for you, dear reader... would it be better to remove the nest or leave it hoping for a new beginning? Many Thanks for any information you can share.
*Update 12:00 noon on 4/27/12, I wanted to share this small ray of sunshine. I felt really down after publishing the post above, so I decided to treat myself to lunch out, and I was very glad I did. I encountered a sweet family of ducks and their newly hatched ducklings that had taken up residence in an large empty planter outside Wendy's. They were kind enough to visit with me for a few moments, making me smile and helping to mend a broken heart.

Sweet baby ducklings! This has been a harsh year for you and birds and nests.
It is so sad when you find the nest empty like this...has happened to me...I think it is the black birds here that raid the nest...here they even tear the nests APART...strange how Nature works sometimes isn´t it.
ahhhh but the ducks..tooooo sweet but in a PLANTER outside a restaurant...omg....amazing. I hope they make it to water alright:)

The pitfalls of welcoming Nature into your heart is the casualties along the way. I know this, but it still hurts each time I face reality. Leave the nest! If the robins don't return (they might), someone else may use it. Mourning Doves love to use their disgarded nests. I have found robin's nest with a sparrow's nest built on top of it. The ducklings are adorable. Wishing you a beautiful and happier weekend.
I´d leave the nest as some birds like to come back even if they weren´t successful for the first time. Wonderful photos!

Our Robins usually have two clutches, so perhaps she'll come back.
She may be back, once they find an area that like, Robins usually returned. My daughter found that out. For some reason, they liked her mail box and then her upstairs window and returned often to have babies.
The picture of the ducklings is so precious and is reminder of how when one door closes, another one opens. Peace to you
I too am a bird person...Animal person really.It is always so hard coping with anything other than a 'happy outcome' when it comes to Nature.But do what you have done and dwell on the 'Good' outcomes.

Thankyou for sharing. And the photos were perfect. I too had an experience like this late last year. I have choosen to leave the nest and hopeful that this spring will see it used again. I hope you too will see your nest used again.
